Conditions were more bearable than in recent days, with cloud cover and a breeze making it more suitable weather for fishing.

And Wilby – fishing at Peg 3 – took full advantage to finish ahead of the competition.

He fished at 4m with maggot over groundbait to catch mainly roach and skimmers for a total of 33lb 14oz.

Second place, meanwhile, went the way of Billy Hughes, who had 31lb 4oz from peg 35.

Hughes had a mixed bag of crucians and skimmers.

Third place was claimed by in-form angler Jason Potter thanks to his return of 20lb 11oz from Peg 1.

Conditions were back to being hot and tough for Sunday’s match at Besthorpe Farm, but that did not stop Andrew Mears from smashing the 100lb mark.

He fished the middle of the Car Park Lake, using the long pole with just a hook length to land 40 carp.

Second place went to Ben Wilby with 59lb fishing the road side lake and Dordy Wilby was third with 27lb 13oz of fish caught close in the margins.

* The club recently attracted some first-time anglers to its match at Tunmore Lakes, namely Zak Wilby and Harley Cox.
