Diss Town beaten away from home in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North by Norwich CBS

It is now six Thurlow Nunn League First Division defeats in a row for Diss Town following last Friday’s 2-1 loss at Norwich CBS.

Played in windy conditions at the Football Development Centre in Bowthorpe, it proved to be an evening in which the visiting Tangerines were made to count the cost of not taking their chances.

Diss’ Will Goulding headed inches over from a Stephen Vincent free-kick in the 10th minute, while soon after home goalkeeper Asa Swatman denied Vincent from point-blank range after Paul Betson played a fine through ball to Keiron Hagan, with Virgilio Leitao putting the loose ball narrowly wide.

And Diss were duly punished for not converting one of those openings, when defender Jack Tipple gave the ball away just inside his own half in the 14th minute.

This led to a quick CBS break, with Sam Last racing back to try and cover, but his sliding tackle sent Stephen Drake crashing to the floor.

Daniel Barraclough sent the penalty into the net to open the scoring.

CBS had a good spell and Jake Hayhoe made a superb save to deny Drake, but the Diss goalkeeper could do little in the 22nd minute to prevent Karl Horton from firing in from the edge of the box.

Diss replied with Goulding having a goalbound shot blocked, after Stacey Payne and Last linked up down the left.

In the next attack, Goulding played the ball for Leitao to move into the penalty area and force Payton Swatman to use his feet to block the shot, with the Diss forward putting the rebound wide.

In the 33rd minute, Diss applied even more pressure as Leitao played the ball for Hagan to shoot, and the loose ball resulted in Vincent having his shot cleared off the line.

With just over 20 minutes to play, CBS were reduced to 10 men when Jordan King kicked the ball away after a free-kick award and the yellow card added to the one received for scything down Payne earlier in the game.

At this stage, Shaneil Clarke was introduced and his pace and busy style of play caused the home team problems.

Full-back Last eventually pulled a goal back when turning the ball in from five yards out in the 86th minute, following a good spell of Diss pressure, but an equalising goal eluded Jason Cook’s men, who remain third from bottom in the table.

They return to action tomorrow at home against 14th-placed Cornard United (3pm).

* Diss Town Under-18s suffered a 6-1 defeat at the hands of their Gorleston counterparts in the Thurlow Nunn Youth League East.

The youthful Tangerines took the lead in the 6th minute when Osi Emmanoka played the ball across for Jacob Ready to head in.

However, Gorleston were in control thereafter, and ended up winning the contest with relative ease.
