McDonald’s announces plans for new restaurant in Victoria Road, Diss
McDonald’s has announced plans to build its first restaurant in Diss and has launched a public consultation inviting residents to share their views.
The fast-food giant is proposing to develop on a vacant site in Victoria Road, near Diss Golf Course, with the drive-thru restaurant offering both takeaway options and indoor seating.
According to the proposals, the development would create around 100 new jobs and generate up to £60,000 a year in business rates, payable to Broadland and South Norfolk District Councils to help fund local services.
A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “We are excited by this opportunity to enhance local food choice with a new, sensitively designed McDonald’s restaurant for Diss, which will deliver significant job opportunities for local people on a site that is currently vacant.
“We are committed to working closely with the local community in Diss, ahead of submitting a planning application to Broadland and South Norfolk District Councils.
“I would therefore encourage local people with an interest in the scheme to take part in our online public consultation and share their views about our proposals with us directly.”
The plans also feature landscaping to boost biodiversity, a patio area and a car park with electric vehicle charging points.
The public consultation opened today and will run until Monday, November 17, giving residents and stakeholders the chance to comment on the proposals before McDonald’s submits its formal planning application.
Residents can view the plans and share feedback online at mcdonaldsconsultation.co.uk/diss, by calling 0808 304 2347, emailing feedback@mcdonaldsconsultation.co.uk, or writing to Cavendish Consultation Response, 8–10 Mansion House Place, London, EC4N 8BJ.
If approved, the development would see Diss gain its very first McDonald’s restaurant as the nearest branches are either nine miles away in Snetterton or 14 miles away in Stowmarket.
