Norwich City column: Hull win at home needs to be the start of an improved run of results at Carrow Road

Tuesday night’s win over Hull City at Carrow Road felt somewhat significant for a number of reasons.

For a start, it came on the back of a two-game losing streak which had slowed much of the momentum David Wagner was able to build in his early weeks in charge.

More importantly, it was also our first home win since late October – a run which had stretched seven games in all competitions.

In truth, our form at Carrow Road this season has not been good enough – and is one of the main reasons for our struggles.

Even after Tuesday’s victory, we have only picked up 22 points out of a possible 48 in NR1.

That represents the 14th best home record in the league – and is only two points more than relegation-threatened Rotherham, despite the fact the Millers have only played 14 games (compared to our 16).

For a team that still harbours play-off aims, that has to significantly improve as we move towards the business end of the season.

That said, the result and the performance was the perfect Valentine’s Day gift. Particularly the second half, when we swept aside a Hull side on an upwards trajectory under the impressive Liam Rosenior.

Central to the victory was Gabriel Sara – and I’ve been extremely excited by the Brazilian’s recent form.

It’s no secret that it has taken the 23-year-old a bit of time to adjust to life in England, but under Wagner, he has established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet.

The quality of his goal speaks for itself, but I was especially inspired by the way he dictated the game from deep positions.

It goes without saying, Sara still has a lot to work on – but there are signs that he has all the ability to justify his price tag and more.

Our recruitment team has taken some stick in recent years, but they may have uncovered another gem.
