Diss Cricket Club's Mark Williamson selects his top five team-mates from down the years
What Mark Williamson doesn’t know about Diss Cricket Club probably isn’t worth knowing.
He joined the club as a junior around the age of nine and has since risen through the ranks, all the way through to captaining the first team.
Williamson’s long association means he has played with many players down the years, but which five made the biggest impression?
David Tooke: During my early years David was ‘Mr Dependable’ with the bat.
He was capable of doing everything, getting himself in before moving through the gears.
He could also hold up an end, but always knew the right time to up the tempo. David is also a real stalwart at the club.
Chris Cooper: Chris had the all-round game. He could bowl, but was also a destructive batsman.
He moved to the top of our order a few seasons ago and it transformed both him and us as a team.
Chris would get us off to explosive starts that left the opposition on the back foot.
Rob Tooke: During the last few years Rob has been brilliant for us.
He has really taken his game to another level and we are lucky to have him.
He tends to come it at number five and if we are in a good position he will continue that and turn it into a brilliant position.
But if we are struggling, he can also get us into a competitive position. Rob is also an excellent fielder and dependable with the ball.
Jebb Swallow: Jebb was brilliant as our overseas player last season. He came over from Australia and really stepped up, scoring 600-odd runs.
He made many great starts and scored a memorable big hundred as well.
It is a real shame we went down because he was keen on coming back to play for us – we let him down as a team on that front.
Ross Knoll: He was our overseas player in 2014 and came from the same area of Australia as Jebb.
Ross opened our bowling and he could really bat as well.
He could absorb so much time at the crease and then go out and take wickets, which he did many times.
Ross was also a brilliant lad off the pitch and got involved with the club.
