Joy for trio at county championships

There was joy for Diss trio Margaret Thorpe, Shirley Plummer and Veronica Southey as they claimed victory at the Suffolk County Women’s Bowls Association County indoor championships at Sole Bay Indoor Bowls Club.

Competing in the 2-bowl triples against Carole Howe, Virginia Sherwood and Elaine Wright, the Diss threesome started strongly to gradually pull ahead.

Their opponents battled back over the last seven ends, picking up 11 shots, including their skip bowling a saving shot to convert the 15th end from being three shots down to win the end.

However, it was prove too little too late as the Diss trio held on to win the match 19-17.
