Another win for Harleston
Harleston Town continue to set the pace at the top of the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North following Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Wisbech St Mary.
Since losing to Swaffham Town on the opening day of the campaign, Adam Gusterson’s newly-promoted side are unbeaten, picking up 25 points from the 27 on offer.
The trip to Cambridgeshire was the first time Harleston were unable to score three or more goals since August 18, but it mattered little as they returned victorious.
Nathan Russell and Scott Roberts were the scorers on this occasion, taking the team’s tally for the campaign to 32 in 10 matches, which is eight more than any other side in the division.
Next up for the league leaders, who are five points clear of second-placed Mulbarton Wanderers, is the visit of Cornard United tomorrow (3pm).
* Debenham LC inflicted a first defeat of the campaign on AFC Sudbury Reserves on Saturday, running out victors by a 2-0 margin.
The Hornets went into the contest on the back of a defeat at King’s Lynn Town Reserves last time out.
However, they bounced back in positive fashion against their own supporters, with Luke Taylor opening the scoring.
The points were then made safe by centre-forward Craig Jennings, who kept his cool to score from the penalty spot.
The win – Debenham’s fourth of the season – has lifted them up to eighth, locked on 14 points with Lakenheath, who boast a superior goal difference.
Tomorrow Debenham are due to be back on home soil against Leiston Reserves (1.30pm).
