Eye 'stun' officials with withdrawal
Eye & District Cricket Club have opted to withdraw from the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship with immediate effect.
The club has taken the decision with their Saturday side sitting second-from-bottom in the Division Eight standings.
The situation is a far cry from last season when Eye were celebrating being crowned champions of Division Nine West, having racked up an impressive 13 wins from their 16 outings.
That provided them with a points return of 284 points – 48 clear of second-placed Kesgrave.
However, nine games into their 2018 campaign, the club has pulled out.
A statement on the Two Counties Championship website read: “The Management Sub-Committee has been stunned by the revelation that Eye & District have reached the decision to withdraw from the Two Counties Cricket Championship with immediate effect.
“Their Division Eight match results will now be declared as void.”
Nobody at Eye CC was available for comment when contacted by the Express.
