The Diss Golf Club member, 15, kept alive his dream of a place in the pro-am of the British Masters — supported by Sky Sports – when he qualified at Mid Herts Golf Club.

Humphrey-Moore will now head to England Golf Week in August at Frilford Heath Golf Club, Oxfordshire, for the national finals of the Chase Your Dream Trophy.

The top players there will subsequently play in the pro-am of the Bridgestone Challenge, and the winning team at that particular event will make a date for the British Masters.

The teenager, who qualified with a nett score of 70, said: “I have got a tendency, like most golfers, to try and hit the ball as hard as I can but Mid Herts really isn’t like that.

“I carefully plotted my way round the course, ensuring I placed it and it’s clearly worked.”

And ahead of a planned trip to Tunisia, he added: “I am actually going out there to play more golf. It will be the perfect place to practice my putting in preparation for Frilford Heath.

“I really hope I get to the British Masters, it would be a dream come true.”

Bridgestone’s consumer sales and marketing director, Farrell Dolan, said: “Spencer has done fantastically to qualify for the next round amongst a field of fantastic golfers.”

Twelve months ago the three overall winners partnered Ryder Cup hero Nicolas Colsaerts at the pro-am of the British Masters supported by Sky Sports at Close House.

l Earlier this month Diss Golf Club hosted its annual Fine & Country Golf competition.

It proved to be a popular event among the club’s members with 85 in total taking part (76 men and 9 ladies).

Played in favourable weather conditions, the scoring on the day was very good and also ensured that a close competition was played out.

The victory eventually went the way of the club’s Sandra Bowman after she recorded a return of 43 Stableford points.

Closely following up in second was Colin Godfrey Burr on countback with 42 points, while Antony Thornton-Jones and Kevin McNally had to settle for a share of third position, also with 42 points to their names.

Meanwhile, the club has recently been contesting some mixed friendly matches that have proven to be a big success.

Diss GC have enjoyed three wins so far this year, losing only to Eaton GC away from home.

After a brief summer break, the matches will resume in the near future.
