Mike Derbyshire wants to help push Diss Town back to where he feels they should be
Almost four years on since he left Brewers Green Lane, Mike Derbyshire is back at Diss Town and is keen to help push the club back to where he feels they should be.
The former Tangerines boss, who had an eight-month spell in charge back in 2014, has returned to the club as first-team coach, to assist manager Jason Cook.
And it was a winning start for Derbyshire at the weekend, as Diss fought back from a goal behind to run out 5-2 winners at Wisbech St Mary and notch their first away win in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North this season.
But Derbyshire was quick to point out the old adage: ‘one swallow does not a summer make’, and has stressed the importance of not letting their performance levels drop when they host Ipswich Wanderers tomorrow (3pm).
“We’ve got a result on Saturday, but the most important thing now is to not let our concentration or our focus drop against Ipswich,” he said.
“We need to put a run together and from what I’ve seen, the squad at Diss is really strong.
“I think we may need to bring in one or two more players to add a little bit more depth. If we can do that and continue to develop the squad we have then I see no reason why Diss shouldn’t be moving towards the top end of the table.
“Diss is a lovely club and I don’t want to be seen as taking the limelight. This is Jason’s team and I’m just here to help him. I want to see Diss playing good football, getting good crowds and moving up the league to where they should be.”
After being sacked as Diss manager back in November 2014, Derbyshire had a short spell in charge of Cromer Town, while the last two years have seen him as the head of football at the University of East Anglia, a position which he recently left.
“I’ve come in for the next couple of months and when we get to Christmas time we’ll see where we are,” Derbyshire said. “I think the sky is the limit with where the club can go.”
