Bergerac star makes Beryl’s day

A resident of a Hoxne care home has received a surprise signed picture from a “rather dishy” celebrity after putting pen to paper.

Beryl Calvin, 89, who moved into Depperhaugh Care Home, home in January 2019, is a big fan of actor John Nettles and wrote to the Midsomer Murders and Bergerac star to tell him so.

Tania Amies, the home’s activities co-ordinator, said: “Beryl absolutely adores him and refers to him as being ‘rather dishy’, so, together, we composed a letter to him.”

A couple of months past and they thought they would never get a reply ... until a signed picture, with the message – ‘For Beryl, lotsa love, John Nettles xx’ arrived in the post at the home on Monday.

Ms Amies said: “Beryl was absolutely thrilled with the photo and even more delighted that he had signed it personally.

“She still has not stopped smiling and the photo has now taken pride of place on the mantelpiece in her room.”
