Cook wishes departing skipper all the best

Manger Jason Cook has wished Jack Tipple all the best after the defender’s Diss Town exit was confirmed last week.

Cook had been keen to retain his captain’s services, but after giving the decision some thought, Tipple has opted to move up the non-league pyramid with Gorleston.

The Diss boss, though, holds no grudges towards a player he picked as his Manager’s Player of the Year last team.

Twelve months ago the squad Cook inherited was decimated by widespread departures, but Tipple opted to remain at Brewers Green Lane – something that was greatly appreciated.

“To be honest we expected Jack to move on,” said Cook.

“We knew he had been training with Gorleston and there was interest from elsewhere, that is why we have signed plenty of quality in that position.

“Jack is a really good lad and we wanted to keep him – he was the first player I spoke to during the summer about his plans for next season.

“But he wants a new challenge and I have no problem with that, he goes with our best wishes.

“He was my Manager’s Player of the Year and that shows how important he was, but we are already building for the future.”

Meanwhile Tipple, who counts Scole United among his favourite clubs, tweeted: “Would like to thank all people involved at @DISSTOWNFC over the last two years – management, staff and supporters who have been so good to me and improved me as a player/person.

“It’s now time for me to take the challenge that I have been offered with @gorlestonfc.”

In terms of who will be taking on the captain’s armband, Cook revealed that he had a shortlist of three which he intends to whittle down to one prior to tomorrow’s friendly away at Easton (2pm).
