Norwich City column: Let’s give Teemu Pukki the send-off he deserves after so many memories playing for the Canaries

When Teemu Pukki arrived at the club in the summer of 2018, on a free transfer from Brøndby, no-one could have imagined the success he would go on to have.

His signature was not exactly met with a clamour of excitement because the Finnish international rocked up in Norfolk as something of an unknown quantity.

In truth, few had even heard of Pukki – while those who had probably remembered him from his somewhat disappointing spell at Celtic.

But it was the start of a very special relationship, which has spanned five years, 209 appearances and 88 goals.

There have been so many highs, it would be impossible to mention them all.

The sheer volume of goals he scored in both title winning seasons will always be remembered fondly. Particularly those during the 2018/19 campaign, when as a team we upset the odds and took the Championship by storm in such iconic fashion.

There was of course the Premier League hat-trick against Newcastle – and the role he played in the infamous 3-2 win over Manchester City at Carrow Road. The latter in particular, a memory that will last a lifetime.

We had all hoped the Pukki party would go on forever, but sadly the time has come to say an emotional farewell to a humble, hard-working man who will go down as one of Norwich City’s greatest ever strikers.

There is no hiding from the fact his last season at the club has been underwhelming, but it takes nothing away from Pukki’s legacy.

He will always remain synonymous with one of the best and most exciting periods in our history.

I’m pleased, as fans, we have one last opportunity show our appreciation.

I know there is significant discontent at present – and believe me I understand where it comes from. But I would encourage everyone to park those feelings for 90 minutes on Monday afternoon and give this legend the send-off he deserves.

Beyond that, I wish Pukki nothing but the best for the future.
