Norwich City column: Edward Seaman on best business Canaries could do would be to keep hold of Gabriel Sara

As much as we would like to keep it under wraps, the extraordinary talent of Gabriel Sara is fast becoming one of the worst kept secrets in the EFL.

The 24-year-old has started the season in electric fashion, following up a creative masterclass against Hull with his first goal of the campaign in last weekend’s 4-4 draw at Southampton.

When you look back, every promotion-winning Norwich City team of the last few decades has had that one superstar, capable of magic moments and almost winning games single-handedly.

I think of Darren Huckerby, Wes Hoolahan and Emi Buendia – all players who effortlessly wowed the fans.

In Sara, we have another player who could join that list over the next nine months.

Of course, it would be crazy to get carried away after two games – after all, we failed to win at the Saint Mary’s Stadium – but the signs have been encouraging, particularly from an attacking perspective.

At the heart of everything has been the Brazilian.

There’s been a lot of talk about whether new signings are still needed or not, but retaining the services of Sara would be the best piece of business we could do between now and the window shutting.

Two players who have departed, however, are Max Aarons and Tim Krul.

I appreciate this is something of a segway, but I thought it would be wrong not to pay tribute to two who have given this club so much.

I don’t think its unfair to say Max’s development has slowed somewhat over the last 18 months – and that this summer is the right time for him to move on.

But his loyalty and professionalism can only be commended, particularly in the modern day landscape.

Like Max, Tim was a wonderful servant to Norwich – playing such a crucial role in our recent successes. His heroics between the sticks will rightly be remembered for years to come.

Go well, lads.
