Harleston Town need six points over Easter to realistically stand any chance of winning Thurlow Nunn League First Division North title

Harleston Town may lead the way heading into the final week of the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North season, but the destination of the title is out of their hands.

Their season will conclude over the Easter weekend when they play host to March Town United tomorrow, followed by a trip to Cornard United on Monday (both 3pm).

The lead over second-placed Swaffham Town currently stands at two points, but crucially the Pedlars have a game in hand, which is against bottom-of-the-table Felixstowe & Walton United Reserves on Saturday, April 27.

And with all of that in mind, Harleston boss Leon Moore has encouraged his side to focus solely on their jobs and not what is going on elsewhere.

“We have to pick up six points and let the rest look after itself,” he said.

“Everyone knows Swaffham have been in fantastic form and if they win the next three they are champions, but we cannot control what they do so there is no point in us concentrating on them.

“But if they do slip up in any of their games we have to make sure we have done our jobs and won our games.

“We know we are going to need a little bit of luck and favour from elsewhere, but our team is more than capable of winning both our games and hopefully applying a little bit of pressure.”

Harleston, who have not played since their 1-0 derby victory over Diss Town on April 6, will have a fully fit squad to select from for both of their upcoming fixtures.

Tomorrow’s opponents March go into the encounter in good form since the turn of the year and are currently fifth in the table.

They have lost just twice in 2019, with those defeats coming against Swaffham and third-placed Mulbarton Wanderers.

Twelfth-placed Cornard, meanwhile, have won just one of their last five outings, losing on three occasions.
