Framlingham off the mark
After seven failed attempts, Framlingham Town have experienced that winning feeling in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division – not once, but twice.
In terms of results it had been a tough start to life at Step 5 for Liam Abraham’s side, who going into last weekend’s round of matches had lost six and drawn one in the league.
However, a Max Willett goal earned them a first three points on the Norfolk coast at Great Yarmouth Town on Saturday and they followed that up three days later by overcoming Whitton United 2-1 at home, with captain James Mayhew and Danny Smith finding the back of the net.
Abraham believes his men are now getting the sort of luck that had so far eluded them, although he insisted that they have never allowed their heads to drop as the matches without a win ticked by.
“We had been competing in every game and it was getting closer. The win just felt like a matter of time,” he said.
“The opposition have hit the bar twice late on against us recently, whereas before those chances were going in.
“We are getting that little bit of luck and we deserve it because certain things have gone against us.
“The lads have not been any different all the way through the run.
“They are still very excited to be playing at this level and did not get themselves down while we waited for the win.”
The Castlemen will look to make it three victories in a row tomorrow when they play host to Newmarket Town (3pm).
The Jockeys have made an inconsistent start to the season and are 13th in the table, four places, but just one point, better off than Framlingham.
