Trio win gold medals
There was reason for celebration at Diss & District Athletics Club after three of their members were crowned champions at the recent Norfolk and Suffolk County Championships.
Max Brookes (hammer and discus), Luella Brookes (hammer) and James Laurie (shot put) all came out on top for the club, while silver medals went the way of Luella Brookes (discus) and Freddie Powell (shot, discus and javelin).
Elsewhere at the event, during the heats of the Quadkids season (aimed at U11 – U13) both Malachi Komolafe and Harvey Foreman won gold with Max Barton, Eva Barton and George Pomfret clinching bronze medals.
Komolafe topped off his success in the heats by being crowned overall Quadkids champion.
Head coach, Gordon Coe, said: ‘I am incredibly proud of every athlete in the club.
“They give 100 per cent effort during training and this hard work and dedication shows in the results gained at competition.”
Meanwhile, Three of the club’s athletes have be chosen for county squads.
Luella Brookes will be representing Norfolk in Oxford, with Elliot Spencer and Guy McGarr representing Suffolk in Bury St Edmunds in September.
