Experienced trio agree Diss moves
Jason Cook recently revealed to the Express that he would be adding experienced players to his Diss Town squad this summer, and the manager has already started to deliver on that vow.
Following the arrival of Sam Last from Team Bury, the Tangerines boss has since moved to bolster his defence with the signings of Gavin Flurrie and Ricky Cornish, while midfielder James Attwood has also agreed a switch to Brewers Green Lane.
It is all a far cry from the previous off-season, when having been appointed late on after Paul Bugg’s short reign, Cook found it tough to recruit players with any previous Thurlow Nunn playing time under their belts.
There are not such issues with the recently recruited trio, though, all of whom have a vast amount of experience at Steps 5 and 6, and Cornish’s case, even higher.
Cornish, 47, will be a familiar face to Diss supporters, having previously played for the club during the 2000s.
He was once on the books at Bristol City and Cambridge United, while more locally he has turned out for Mildenhall Town, Newmarket Town, AFC Sudbury and Lakenheath.
Centre-back Flurrie made 30 appearances during Whitton United’s First Division promotion-winning campaign last term, with Attwood having the likes of Mildenhall, Walsham-le-Willows and Hadleigh United on his CV.
Cook said: “After a tough few seasons the club is keen to get back on track and these signings will help us do that.
“They have all bought in to what we are looking to achieve this season.
“Gavin has been there and done it – he will lead our line brilliantly.
“Where do you start with Ricky? He’s a great character and his age is not an issue, it’s just a number.
“He has been tremendous in training and has a great footballing brain.
“And James has not had much luck with injuries, but he has a good pedigree and will give us a calmness on the ball.”
