Diss Town snap up free agent striker Matt Blake for their Thurlow Nunn League First Division North play-off push
Diss Town have pulled off a transfer coup with the signing of striker Matt Blake.
The 34-year-old became a free agent last month after leaving higher-league Ipswich Wanderers, where he scored 35 goals last season to help them win promotion as Thurlow Nunn League First Division South champions.
The front man brings a wealth of experience to the Tangerines, having played for the likes of Leiston, Stowmarket Town and Thetford Town, and won the golden boot at Step 3 in the Isthmian League Premier Division with Leiston in 2016/17.
Blake was top of the scoring charts at Wanderers this season, netting 11 goals in 17 games during their first campaign back in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division, before departing Humber Doucy Lane last month.
The arrival of Blake to Brewers Green Lane will be a welcome boost for the Tangerines, who play a league below Wanderers in the First Division North, as they sit in 12th place, nine points and seven places off of the play-off spots at the halfway point of the season.
The club posted on Twitter this afternoon: 'We are delighted to welcome the Best Striker in Suffolk to the club.
'The gaffas (sic) have worked hard to get this man over the line and we are delighted to welcome him to the tangies.
'He’s an unbelievable player, goalscorer, winner and all round man. Welcome Blakey.'
Blake could make his debut for Diss in their home clash with sixth placed Downham Town tomorrow (3pm).
