Attleborough Town continue positive start to season with Norfolk Senior Cup victory
Attleborough Town manager Martyn Fuller has praised the ‘dogged spirit’ that his side showed during last weekend’s 3-2 victory over Scole United in the Norfolk Senior Cup.
Goals from Ollie Ramsbotham and Jak Fuller put Attleborough in the ascendancy, but their higher-league opposition hit back to level up the scoreline.
However, deep into time added on Danny Camish scored a third goal for Attleborough to set up a second-round tie at Bradenham Wanderers.
“There is a real slope on Scole’s pitch and we had the wind with us in the first half which meant we struggled to play any decent football,” said Fuller.
“But obviously all of that was reversed in the second half and it was much better from us. It was a very even game but we have managed to nick it 3-2 which is fantastic.
“It is all about believing in things, that is what gets you late goals. Last season if we had been pegged back after going two goals up we would probably have lost but we showed some real dogged spirit and self belief.”
The victory over Scole continued an impressive start to the season for Fuller’s men, who have opened up their 2019/20 Hadley & Ottaway Anglian Combination Division One campaign with four straight wins.
Promotion is the aim this term, although Fuller is not getting overly carried away ahead of this weekend’s home clash against Gorleston Reserves (2.30pm).
“It has been a good start and to be the fair to the lads they could not have done much more,” he added.
“Promotion is the target – there is no point turning up unless you want to be progressing each season.
“But this is a tough league and there are probably four or five other really good sides that will want to be going up as well.
“The teams we have beaten so far are not expected to be up there at the end of the season but Gorleston, so that is going to be a real test and it will tell us more about where we are.
“There are no easy games and it is hard to win any game convincingly.
“We dominated some games last year and ended up with scores like 2-1 – that will need to change this season.”
