Stuston Parish Council to fold in March

Stuston Parish Council will cease to exist after March 31, having served the village for about 40 years.
The council is moving to a parish meeting system, where the whole village is able to meet and have a say on relevant issues.
Current chairman David Laurie said talks to wind it down have taken place over two years.
He said: “We saw that other parishes were having parish meetings. They are almost more democratic as everyone in the village has a choice to have their say.”
A parish meeting still has a chairman, who is voted for by residents.
Mr Laurie said the amount of legal red tape put people off being parish councillors.
