Pulham Market Carnival is a Jaw-dropping sight awash with fun
All eyes were on man-eating sharks, treasure-hungry pirates and other sea dwellers as Pulham Market Carnival made a triumphant return.
Now in its 52nd year, the spectacle featured some brilliantly crafted creations as people embraced the theme of Under the Sea.
Carnival fans lined the streets, cheering on the procession as it passed through the village.
After coming to a stop on The Green, people were treated to a host of entertainment, thanks to Gislingham Silver Band, a bouncy castle, stalls, mini horses and dancing displays.
The village’s two pubs, the Falcon and The Crown, laid on special food for the event.
Committee member Sarah Veness said it had been another fantastic day in the event’s proud history.
“It went really well,” she said. “The weather was perfect and lots of people came out to support us, which was great to see.
“It was another brilliant year for float entries. It never fails to surprise me how much effort people put in. The creativity and sheer manpower which must be needed to make everything is incredible.”
This year’s floats were judged by Louis de Bernières, author of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, which won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize Best Book in 1995.
The prize for the best adult float went to the Pulham Players, for their Jaws-inspired creation.
Pulham Market Primary School won the children’s category, while the walking float prize went to Tribe All Fitness.
“We would like to thank everyone in the community for their support, which they give every single year, because, without it, the carnival simply wouldn’t happen,” added Ms Veness.
Money raised from the day, which is still being counted, will go towards organising next year’s carnival, with plans already under way for the 2025 event.
