Seven sites in Harleston have been put forward for consultation as part of Greater Norwich Local Plan
Seven sites have been put forward for consultation, totalling 1,000 potential new homes in Harleston.
The proposal is part of the Greater Norwich development partnership, which is tasked with drawing up a plan for new homes in the area.
Broadland District Council, Norwich City Council and South Norfolk Council are working with Norfolk County Council to shape the future of the Greater Norwich area.
Earlier this year, around 600 sites were put forward for consultation, with a further 202 possible sites submitted since.
Most of the sites needed for new development have already been identified in existing plans or have planning permission.
However, a further 7,200 homes are needed up to 2036 over the whole Greater Norwich area, along with the infrastructure needed to support them.
This is due to a longer life expectancy, insufficient housing built in the previous years and more people moving into the Greater Norwich area than leaving it.
A spokesman for Broadland District Council said: “The sites that are being consulted on are ones which have been put forward by landowners, agents and developers.
“Just because seven sites for 1,000 homes have been put forward, doesn’t mean there are plans for 1,000 homes but that, when a decision is made about the amount of growth which is reasonable for Harleston, there will be a number of site options to consider.”
The seven sites put forward for Harleston include west of Shotford Road, north of Green Lane, south of Rendenhall Road, Mendham Lane, south of Spirketts Lane, south of Needham Road and Briar Farm.
Lynda Ling, town clerk of Redenhall with Harleston Town Council, said: “One of the things the council will be emphasising when comments are submitted is the urgent need for infrastructure to be in place before any large-scale building takes place. “
Other sites have been put forward for Ashwellthorpe, Bressingham, Bunwell, Burston and Shimpling, Carleton Rode, Dickleburgh and Rushall, Diss, Tivetshall St Mary, Winfarthing and Wortwell.
People are invited to comment and have their say on the current consultation until December 14.
