Stradbroke leisure centre reopens after £200k revamp
Stradbroke Pool and Fitness Centre has reopened following a £200,000 refurbishment project.
The six-figure investment has breathed fresh life into the centre in Wilby Road, with customers now able to enjoy the fresh, new look.
Undertaken by Mid Suffolk District Council, the project included the purchase of 33 new pieces of gym equipment, as well as improvements to the pool changing areas, the shower and toilet units and the main reception area.
Julie Flatman, cabinet member for communities and housing at the district council, visited the site this week, following five months of closure due to the sweeping coronavirus pandemic.
“Making sure we have the right facilities to help residents remain healthy and stay active is so important,” said Cllr Flatman, who is also a ward member for Stradbroke and Laxfield.
“The upgrades at Stradbroke are the first step in plans to upgrade our leisure provision in the district.
“We hope that by investing in our facilities, both current and future generations can enjoy physical activity, boosting their health and wellbeing in the long term.”
Anselm Gurney, contract manager for Everyone Active, which runs the centre on behalf of the council, added: “It’s great to see our customers return and enjoying the new facilities on offer in Stradbroke, and we hope to see even more people heading to the centre over the coming months.”
Everyone Active is set to introduce and co-ordinate a new outreach programme in mid Suffolk, under the aim of bringing sport and activity to a wider community.
