Jasper, five, ticks off Ben Nevis hike and raises thousands for Prostate Cancer UK
A five-year-old has completed a hike up Ben Nevis with his dad, raising more than £6,500 for a cancer charity.
Jasper Dunsmore took on the 16-hour hike up and down the UK’s highest mountain on Saturday.
He had already conquered Scafell Pike in England and Mount Snowdon in Wales.
His dad, Peter, said the Dickleburgh Primary School pupil had taken the climb all in his stride.
“It was just amazing,” he said. “We woke up at 4am at the foot of the mountain and, an hour later, we started to climb.
“We reach the summit at 3.30pm. It had been a long day but he walked every step, doing it all himself. I am so proud of him.”
It means the intrepid mountaineer has now reached the top of the UK’s three highest peaks, raising money for Prostate Cancer UK, after his grandad, from Kenninghall, was diagnosed with the disease last year.
After undergoing major surgery at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital to remove his prostate, he is currently doing well.
Jasper’s fundraising page, with Gift Aid, has now surpassed £6,500.
“He got into so many conversations with people on the mountain that he even raised about £500 in sporship during the climb,” said Mr Dunsmore.
On top of this, Jasper was sent a personal message from former soldier, extreme adventurer and bestselling author Jordan Wylie to wish him well on the climb.
“It is amazing just how far and wide Jasper has reached with this challenge, how many people he has touched and how much conversation about prostate cancer he has sparked,” added his dad. “I am so immensely proud of him.
“He has no idea the magnitude of what he has done, with the challenge itself, the money he has raised and what that will mean for the charity. It is such a beautiful thing.”
