BBC stars from The Travelling Auctioneers film at TW Gaze in Diss

Camera crews have been to TW Gaze in Diss as part of filming for future episodes of a BBC show.

The site’s Orwell saleroom welcomed Izzie Balmer, Robin Johnson and The Travelling Auctioneers team on July 26.

Among the lots which went under the hammer were a bamboo swagger stick, reputedly the property of Admiral Nelson’s surgeon, Sir William Beatty.

The stick was sold with a manuscript, which read: This cane was on board the Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. It belonged to Sir William Beatty a favourite surgeon of Lord Nelson, who gave it to Dr Davis, also a naval surgeon and father of the late General Gronon Davis. By him, it was given to Mr Webb, who now asks Captain Chapman to accept it. Lord Nelson took a fancy to the cane and was in the habit of using it. May 1893.

Auction rooms director Elizabeth Talbot thanked everyone who attended the filming.

On the auction house’s Facebook page, she added: “We will, of course, let you know when these episodes will air and, for those who missed out, fear not ... the team will be travelling back to us on Friday, September 6.”
