Walsham go out of Vase
Walsham-le-Willows crashed out of the FA Vase at the second qualifying round stage on Saturday via a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Deeping Rangers.
Walsham, who beat neighbouring Diss Town in the previous round, went into the contest unbeaten on home soil.
And they gave themselves every chance of protecting that record when skipper Jack Brame put them in the lead against the visitors from the United Counties League.
However, Scott Mooney got Deeping level before further goals from Cameron Johnson, Luke Andersen and substitute Harry Allcock secured their side a place in the next round and a date with Newmarket Town.
For Deeping, the result marked an element of revenge from the two teams’ previous meeting in the Vase during 2016/17, when Walsham advanced 5-4 on penalties after a replay.
Walsham (6th) will now aim to get back on track in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division with back-to-back home fixtures.
Eighth-placed Norwich United will be their visitors tomorrow (3pm), before Histon (5th) make the trip over the Suffolk border on Wednesday (7.45pm).
