Walsham-le-Willows defeat Brantham Athletic 3-0 in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division

Walsham-le-Willows are up to fifth in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division following Saturday’s 3-0 home win over Brantham Athletic.

After a run of five games without a win for Trevor Newman’s side, they have racked up back-to-back victories in a promising return to form.

They took the lead during the first half through captain Jack Brame, who side-footed in from a lowly-struck corner.

Ryan Gibbs – recently back at the club following stints with Bury Town and Needham Market – made it 2-0 with a strike from distance in the second half, before the visitors’ Callum Bennett was red carded following an altercation with the scorer of Walsham’s second goal.

And the points were made safe late on when full-back Lee Sim tucked in the rebound after Niall McPhillips’ effort cannoned against the crossbar.

Walsham are without a fixture this weekend, while on Tuesday they head to Godmanchester Rovers in the League Challenge Cup (7.45pm).

* For the fourth time in five games, Framlingham Town scored two goals on Saturday.

However, on this occasion it was not enough to earn Liam Abraham’s side any points as they were beaten 3-2 at home by Long Melford.

Striker Danny Smith put the hosting Castlemen one goal to the good, but by the half-time whistle they were 2-1 behind.

Melford scored again after the restart and despite Matt Aldis pulling one back for Framlingham, a third goal eluded the home team.

Eighteenth-placed Framlingham will aim to bounce back tomorrow when they travel to Brantham (3pm).

* Debenham LC advanced through to the second round of the Suffolk Senior Cup thanks a 2-0 victory at last season’s semi-finalists Brantham Athletic Reserves.

Luke Taylor and substitute Bradley Austin were on target for the Hornets at the Brantham Leisure Centre.

But Leon Moore’s team continued to show their inconsistent side on Wednesday in the First Division North.

They were beaten 1-0 away at second-from-bottom Needham Market Reserves, leaving them ninth in the table with a return of 15 points from their 13 outings.

Debenham are without a game this weekend and are not due to return to action until October 27, at home against Fakenham Town.
