The Tangerines started training earlier than most this summer, with their first training session on June 12.

It means that much of the fitness work has now been completed, with Cook soon to be turning his focus to the more tactical side of the game.

And, with a host of new players having arrived at Brewers Green Lane during the the off-season, the boss has admitted the next few weeks are going to be key for the campaign ahead.

“The lads have been worked really hard so far and they look fit,” he said.

“Soon we will start looking at formation, team shape and tactics.

“We have had a good summer in terms of recruitment and the squad is looking really positive.

“Now, along with the friendlies, it is vital we start to work on things tactically so we can hit the ground running with a win when the season starts on August 4.”

Cook also revealed that Tuesday evening’s planned friendly against Trimley Red Devils is now unlikely to go ahead as the opposition are struggling to raise a team.

It means the club’s first friendly fixture will be away at Easton on July 14 (2pm).
