Diss Town share Thurlow Nunn League First Division North spoils with Debenham LC and King's Lynn Town Reserves
Diss Town were denied three derby points late on during Saturday’s trip to Debenham LC, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
It appeared Charlie Webb’s 49th-minute goal had given the travelling Tangerines a first away victory since January 12, but a stoppage-time free-kick from Bradley Austin rescued the hosts a share of the spoils.
Both sides found it tough to deal with the windy conditions during the first half, with it taking until the 30th minute for a chance to be created when Debenham’s Barney Collins shot wide.
Meanwhile, up the other end the lively Kieran Hagan forced Hornets goalkeeper Sam Chilvers into making a couple of saves.
However, Chilvers’ resistance was broken four minutes after the restart when Josh Lucraft sent Webb into the clear and the forward applied the finishing touch from eight yards out.
Diss went close to doubling their advantage in the 74th minute as Webb’s initial effort was saved by Chilvers and after Hagan picked up the rebound, his cross was headed against the bar by Keats Staines.
The away team held firm thereafter, until defender Jack Tipple was penalised for a foul on the edge of the Diss penalty area.
Austin stepped up to strike the resultant set piece and he duly dispatched it into the bottom corner of the net to rescue Debenham a point.
And Diss followed that up on Wednesday by playing out a 0-0 draw at King’s Lynn Town Reserves.
Manager Jon Abbott said: “Saturday was the more disappointing draw because it was the last kick of the game.
“We played well and they have pegged us back with their first shot of the second half.
“It was different on Wednesday. We did not play as well but on the positive side we would have lost that eight or 10 weeks ago. Coming away from Lynn with a point is not a disaster.”
Diss (14th) entertain Needham Market Reserves (17th) on Saturday while Debenham LC (12th) will head to table-topping Harleston Town (both 3pm).
