Tangerines need to find clinical side

Diss Town manager Ross Potter has challenged his side to rediscover their clinical touch — and create a winning habit.

Ahead of back-to-back trips, to 16th placed Downham Town tomorrow (3pm) and 14th placed Stowmarket Town on Tuesday evening (7.45pm), the Tangerines find themselves in the middle of a four-game unbeaten run.

However, with only one victory among that sequence, Potter is far from content with his side’s lack of ruthlessness in front of goal.

“We have drawn far too many games recently, and all season in all honesty,” he said.

“The frustrating thing is they are not games where we are struggling, we should have been out of sight in a lot of matches.

“Had we turned those draws into wins we would have been right in the mix at the top of the table.

“We have to find that clinical touch again and start taking our chances again, we have to be ruthless.

“Not doing that causes issues at the other end of the pitch where we come under pressure and look nervy when we shouldn’t in that position.

“Something mentally with the players needs to be gained; winning breeds that swagger and confidence.”

With their next two opponents sitting below 13th placed Diss in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division, the manager is well aware of the opportunity to gain maximum points.

“The next two games are good opportunities to gain victories,” he added.

“We should be beating most sides around us and that is what I expect.”
