Diss Town stricken with injuries ahead of hosting Histon in the Isuzu FA Vase
Diss Town joint manager Mark Sutcliffe is hoping his injury-hit squad can rise to the occasion when they host Histon in the Isuzu FA Vase tomorrow (3pm).
The Tangerines, winners of the Vase back in 1994, face a tough first outing in this season’s running of the national competition, with Histon playing one level higher in the Uhlsport United Counties League Premier Division South.
Despite having a depleted squad for this weekend’s second round qualifying tie, joint boss Sutcliffe is confident his side can put on a performance for the Brewers Green Lane faithful.
“We’re looking forward to the occasion,” he said. “It’s always a privilege any time you get to play in the Vase. It’s a competition the club have won before, so there’s lots of fond memories of it.
“We’re injury stricken this weekend, and we’ve got some other players that are unavailable through working and other commitments.
“It’s a little bit frustrating, but we have a relatively decent-sized squad.
“No matter what side we put out I’m confident we can put on a good performance for the crowd.”
Diss are set to be without Jordan Attree, Kyle Baker, Adam Bennett, Charlie Aulert and Lee Sim, all through injury, this weekend.
Spencer Cawcutt was on target for the Tangerines in their 1-1 draw at Heacham in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North on Saturday, while Sutcliffe’s men were narrowly beaten 1-0 at home by Norwich CBS on Tuesday.
