Jordan Attree returns to Diss Town while Ben Jones signs following regular Premier Division football at Mulbarton Wanderers

Diss Town have announced the return of striker Jordan Attree to the club as well as the addition of midfielder Ben Jones following his successful spell at Mulbarton Wanderers.

Both of Mark Sutcliffe and Matt Coote's new signings arrive having played at a higher level in the 2020/21 campaign.

Jones featured prominently for a newly-promoted Mulbarton outfit that finished fourth in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division with with 31 starts from 35 appearances (no goals).

Meanwhile, Attree made 12 appearances, scoring twice for a Fakenham Town side which finished two places behind them in sixth.

But while expressing their delight at promotion-winner Jones' arrival, it was the striker's return for a third spell at Brewers Green Lane which was described by the club as completing a 'priority signing' for the joint managers.

A post on Diss' official Twitter account read: "@DissTownFC are excited to announce the signing of Jordan Attree.

"Jordy brings a wealth of experience, quality and goals.

"His attitude and commitment to the game and the club's objectives made him a priority signing for Mark and Matt.

"We welcome him to The Tangies."

Attree made nine appearances, scoring once, for Diss in their relegation season from the Premier Division in 2014/15 before returning late in their second campaign in the First Division, with two more outings (one start) for Ross Potter's side in 2016/17, following a spell at Thetford Town.

He was playing in the Premier Division for Great Yarmouth Town in the Covid-19 abandoned 2020/21 campaign, scoring four times in seven starts.

Of Jones' capture, the club said: "With league and cup titles under his belt and bags of experience, Jonesy opted for a fresh challenge for the forthcoming season.

"Mark & Matt are delighted to secure his commitment for the season ahead."

Pre-season fixture list released

Meanwhile, the club – who finished a disappointing fourth-from-bottom in last season's First Division North table having targeted promotion via the play-offs – have announced five pre-season friendlies during next month.

Sutcliffe's and Coote's side will travel to higher-league Thetford Town on Friday, July 8 to kick-off their warm-up matches.

A pair of home games against lower-league opponents will follow on successive Tuesdays from July 12 with Norwich CEYMS' visit followed by Easton on July 19.

Friday, July 22 will see the Tangerines travel over to take on Beccles Town before a further lower-league opponent a week later in Aylsham on Friday, July 29.

The 2021/22 Thurlow Nunn League season is due to get under way for First Division North and South clubs on August 6, as long as sides are not included in the FA Cup opening round draws. For Premier Division clubs the season is scheduled to kick off the weekend before, on July 30.

The Thurlow Nunn Reserve League is due to start on September 3.

A league statement said: "Finalisation of fixture lists will be done once the FA Cup and FA Vase draws are released (probably early July) and fixture schedules for leagues higher up the pyramid become available.

"As such it is unlikely that any Thurlow Nunn League fixtures will be released before mid-July.

"It is intended that the League Challenge Cup will return for 2022/23."
