Diss Town Reserves rack up the goals during victory over Thetford Town's second string

Diss Town Reserves moved up to third in the Thurlow Nunn Reserve League thanks to a 7-1 home win over Thetford Town on Saturday.

The Tangerines dominated proceedings from the off and it could have been an even greater winning margin had not been for the performance of Thetford goalkeeper Ulysses Campos between the posts.

Campos managed to keep the hosts at bay for 19 minutes, but after that Diss scored three times within the space of six minutes.

All of them were scored by Jake McDowall, who after converting two opportunities from close range, dusted himself down to score a penalty that he had won.

It took Diss until the 63rd minute to score a fourth goal, which in turn started a burst of four goals in nine minutes.

Diss broke quickly at a Thetford corner and Artur Leszcynski played the ball through for McDowall to run from 40 yards out and shoot in from 15 yards for his fourth goal of the game.

McDowall has scored 18 goals since rejoining the club in mid-September; 14 in 12 starts and four in two substitute appearances.

Within a minute Diss won the ball at the kick-off and McDowall played the ball across for Leszcynski to send a low shot into the corner of the net, while in the 66th minute Aaron Day moved in from the right to send a low shot into the corner of the net.

Leszcynski completed the scoring from a Diss point of view in the 72nd minute before Thetford got themselves a consolation via Chris Palmer’s effort from distance.

Diss will be at home again tomorrow when 13th-placed Mildenhall Town Reserves will be the visitors to Brewers Green Lane (3pm).

* Meanwhile, after having last weekend off, Diss Town will return to Thurlow Nunn League First Division North action tomorrow when they head to ninth-placed Fakenham Town (3pm).

Jon Abbott’s team dropped down to seventh last weekend and will be looking to bounce back from their 3-0 defeat to Ipswich Wanderers on January 4.
