Tangerines thrashed in cup
Diss Town had a night to forget in the Thurlow Nunn League Challenge Cup on Tuesday night, going down 6-1 at home to fellow First Division North side Lakenheath.
Lakenheath had already beaten the Tangerines in the league this term, coming from behind to record a 3-1 victory on September 8.
And they ran riot at Brewers Green Lane, finding the back of the net six times to emphatically dump Jason Cook’s men out of a competition they have never previously won.
The visitors scored twice before the break, one of which came courtesy of Aaron Turner – his 100th goal in a Lakenheath shirt.
The hosting Tangerines hinted that a comeback could be on the cards when striker Virgilio Leitao scored from distance in the 52nd minute, but instead it was Lakenheath that moved through the gears.
Midfielder James McCabe scored the pick of their four second-half goals, firing in off the underside of the crossbar from 35 yards out.
On Saturday, Diss fared better in the league as they played out a 1-1 draw with high-flying Swaffham Town.
Stacey Payne gave Diss the lead in the 18th minute after he charged down a clearance from the visiting goalkeeper.
However, the visiting Pedlars claimed a point thanks to an equaliser from Cameron Lee, who made the most of the time and space he was afforded inside the Diss penalty area.
Diss are without a game this weekend and are not due to return to competitive action until their First Division Knockout Cup tie at Debenham LC on October 9.
