Ipswich Town co-owner Berke Bakay's recent interview points to a bright future for all concerned at Portman Road

Thirteen years of silence ended with one hour and five minutes of honesty and transparency when new co-owner of Ipswich Town, Berke Bakay, sat down live and spoke directly to the fans through their platform of Talking Town.

Never have Ipswich fans had it so open, so honest and so accessible than they did on Thursday night. I hosted the show with my two regular contributors and I can confirm Berke didn’t see a single question beforehand!

This was an unfiltered with an active chat room. In fact, the first question came from the chat and it wasn’t even about football or Ipswich!

Furthermore, we had three fans on the show to ask their question directly to Berke and again, he had no prior knowledge of them.

I came away from Thursday totally blown away by a charismatic, engrossing character, that at heart is a regular football fan who gets the game and understands what it takes to be successful.

Off the field, the club is in incredibly good hands. There are football men now at the football position. The directors aren’t paying lip service to ‘promotion’ and are actually putting their necks on the line. Speaking with firm knowledge that the performance on the field MUST be better.

On the field, however, we are a total embarrassment and quite frankly I can’t wait for the whole squad to pop off on their holidays and only half of them return. Saturday saw another gutless display in another goalless draw that lacked quality and direction.

We head to Swindon this weekend with both clubs having little to play for with the hosts having been confirmed as relegated. Who knows, maybe playing without pressure will result in a shot on target, but I wouldn’t bank on it!

After 13 years of total silence, with the exception of the odd PR buzzword or heavily scripted interview from Marcus Evans or Lee O’Neill, Bakay blew open the door to a new more visible, more accessible club.
