Diss Rugby Club's Vixens make history with victory over Felixstowe
Diss RFC chairman Andy Jermy reflects on a memorable day for the club's Vixens team
"Over the last 60-plus years there has been many firsts for our club to be proud of and last Sunday bore witness to another.
"Our Vixens Women’s team beat their Felixstowe ‘Honey Badgers’ counterparts by a margin of 48-10, which in turn marked the first home league game win for an adult female team in the history of our club.
"I could not be prouder of their achievement.
"This win has put the team in second place in the Eastern Counties League behind Colchester.
"The spirit within female rugby is incredible with sides lending players or reducing numbers to match and the coaches of this group have produced a very skilful but also tremendously determined side.
"The success doesn’t end there because the U18 Vixens have reached the final of the Norfolk RFU Cup, which will be played in May.
"Our director of female rugby, James Stanley, is growing in confidence that we can achieve a clean sweep and that the U15s and U13s will also feature in the cup finals.
"We are so grateful to all our coaches but, for all he has done to develop this now integral part of our club, James deserves special mention.
"If you or someone you know would like to give female rugby a try, please come to the club on a Wednesday night or contact the club in advance. No experience is necessary, and any age can play."
