Debenham LC manager wishes leading goalscorer Lamell Howell well after he departs for Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division side Brantham Athletic
Debenham LC boss Leon Moore has backed leading goalscorer Lamell Howell to shine at his new club Brantham Athletic, writes Alex Moss.
The former Ipswich Town Academy starlet tops the scoring charts at Friends Meadow with 12 goals in 18 games for the Hornets this season.
But late last week the 22-year-old left the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North club to join Premier Division outfit Brantham in the league above.
And while Moore was sad to see Howell depart, the Debenham chief is confident he will hit the ground running with the Imps.
“It was sad to see Lamell go,” he said. “He’s been with me at Debenham for the last two years, and before that we were at Stowmarket together.
“He’s hit the ground running this season. He had a fantastic pre-season, lost a little bit of weight and has got himself in really good shape.
“I sat down with him and said about the opportunity to play at a higher level with Brantham, and I think he will prove himself. He goes with our best wishes.”
Debenham began life without Howell by beating Wisbech St Mary 2-0 at home in the First Division North last Saturday.
Goals from Bradley Austin and recent signing Jake Rudge secured a first win in four for Moore’s side, who do not have a game this weekend.
“We’re not training, so I’ve given them the weekend off,” Moore said. “I’ve got them on Boxing Day (at home to Ipswich Wanderers) anyway!
“It’s important they enjoy the weekend, and then we go and play March next week.”
