Harleston Magpies are joint top of the Investec Women’s Hockey League Conference East after win over Sevenoaks
Harleston Magpies Ladies first team put a third straight win on the board, getting the better of hosting Sevenoaks by the odd goal in three.
The home team made a bright start, but as soon as Harleston gained control they scored two goals in quick succession.
Both goals came courtesy of Lauren Rowe, with both coming from short corners.
The first of those she slotted in with a low finish, while the second was a smartly-converted drag flick.
Sevenoaks fought back, winning short corners and a penalty stroke, but they still could not get on the scoreboard and so Harleston headed into the break with a two-goal advantage.
The home team continued to exert pressure in the second half which Magpies soaked up until 10 minutes from time when Sevenoaks scored from one of their numerous short corners.
Magpies responded by going on the attack when a run down the right wing from Lara Taylor saw her pick out Rowe, who duly got the better of the home goalkeeper.
However, just as she started to celebrate her hat-trick, the goal was disallowed.
Sevenoaks went back up the other end in search of an equaliser, but the visitors stood firm to secure the spoils.
Second-placed Magpies, who are only being kept off the top of the Investec Women’s Hockey League Conference East by virtue of goal difference, will welcome bottom-of-the-table Ipswich to Weybread tomorrow (1.30pm).
