Framlingham Town sign off 2019 with an eight-goal rout, but Diss Town and Debenham LC in the market for bounce-back wins
Framlingham Town claimed a high-scoring 8-2 victory at home to Felixstowe & Walton United Reserves in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North last Friday.
There were hat-tricks for both Joe Berry and Danny Smith, with one apiece for both Max Willett and Alex Ling, as the Badingham Road side ran riot over the reserves team. It saw them wrap up a year that has not always been kind to the Step 6 side on a big high.
The two teams went into the match with little between them, with the Castlemen sitting in 17th place with 15 points and the Seasiders one place and one point below them in the standings.
But the result suggests a much bigger gap between them – and bodes well for Liam Abraham’s men ahead of their visit to third-placed Lakenheath tomorrow (3pm).
The victory was also a strong reaction to Framlingham being beaten 3-1 at home to Great Yarmouth Town on December 21; with the Castlemen’s only score coming from Danny Smith.
Framlingham Town Reserves, meanwhile, are due to return to action in the Thurlow Nunn Reserve League on Saturday, at home to Saffron Walden Town Reserves (3pm).
They lie a mid-table eighth with three wins and four draws from their 14 fixtures.
Diss Town, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back this weekend after a narrow 1-0 defeat on the road to league leaders Mulbarton Wanderers in their last outing of the year on Saturday.
The side in fourth are due to host eighth-placed Ipswich Wanderers tomorrow (3pm) in the two teams’ first league meeting of the season. The reverse fixture is scheduled for April.
But Diss Town also beat Wisbech St Mary 2-1 at home on December 21 despite Alex McIntosh being sent to the showers early. Matt Cook and Aaron Taylor scored Diss’ goals as they also collected three points from the last six on offer.
It was not the case for Debenham LC who played their first fixture in a month on Saturday, after successive weather-affected postponements left them without a game since November 29.
And the gap seemed to impact their performance as the side in 10th position fell to a 3-1 defeat away at Leiston Reserves (14th).
The visitors’ only goal came through Marcus Taylor.
They will look to get back to winning ways tonight (7.45pm) with the Hornets due to host 19th-placed Felixstowe & Walton United Reserves.
