Fakenham Town inflict a fifth straight Thurlow Nunn League First Division North defeat on Diss Town

Diss Town fell to their fifth straight defeat in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North on Saturday, losing out 3-2 at home to Fakenham Town.

It was the hosting Tangerines who broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when Fakenham’s Alex Walpole turned the ball into his own net.

However, the visitors were level prior to the half-time whistle when Alby Matthews picked out the top corner.

Diss got their noses back in front during the second half through Stephen Vincent and it seemed Jason Cook’s men were on course for their first league victory since October 20.

But, with nine minutes remaining, Fakenham drew level for a second time thanks to Tom Blake’s goal and, in the final minute, they claimed all three points via a Dan Hogston penalty.

Third-from-bottom Diss return to action tonight away at sixth-placed Norwich CBS (7.45pm).

* After back-to-back defeats to Swaffham Town and Diss, Harleston Town have continued their positive response with a 6-1 win at King’s Lynn Town Reserves.

Nathan Russell helped himself to a hat-trick for the leaders, while Sam Borrer (2) and Matt Howard completed the scoring.

That result took Harleston’s goal tally for the season to 67 – only four Step 6 teams have scored more across the entire country.

Adam Gusterson’s charges, who are 12 points clear of second-placed Mulbarton Wanderers at the summit, travel to Ipswich Wanderers tomorrow (3pm).

Eighth-placed Wanderers go into the encounter at Humber Doucy Lane on a three-match unbeaten run.
