Positive vibes at Diss CC
The good feeling is back at Diss Cricket Club after they boosted their survival chances and reached a cup final last weekend.
Captain Mark Williamson is now calling on his players to use that positivity to ensure they enjoy a memorable end to the campaign.
Diss had been on a winless run of form that stretched back to May 19 – a sequence that had seen them drop into the Norfolk Cricket Alliance Premier Division relegation zone.
However, Saturday’s triumph over neighbouring Garboldisham moved Diss to within one point of safety ahead of tomorrow’s home encounter against Brooke (12pm).
“(The win) has been a long time coming and we are delighted,” said Williamson.
“We had been in a good position two or three times recently but could not get over the line.
“Danny Cash batted brilliantly for them, but we managed to do enough this time.
“We have shown we can compete at this level, it is now about consistency.
“Last year in Division One we could win games when we were perhaps not at our best, but you cannot get away with that in the Premier.
“This has given us a massive boost and so it is down to us to capitalise on it.”
The triumph over Garboldisham seemed to have an immediate impact as Diss got the better of Thetford Town 24 hours later to reach the final of the Lady Mary Trophy.
“You could see what Saturday’s result had done for us already on Sunday,” added Williamson.
“Thetford might play at a lower level, but we played very well in every department.
“It has given us a big lift, and now we have a final to look forward to as well.
“It is great for the club. The competition is not something we really discussed at the start of the season but once you reach a semi-final you become keen to win it.”
Diss, who have won the tournament twice before in 2004 and 2012, will go in search of a third success against Sheringham on Sunday, September 2.
