Diss off foot of the table after hard-fought draw
THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
Gorleston 0 Diss Town 0
Diss Town lifted themselves off the foot of the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division table with a hard fought 0-0 draw away at Gorleston.
After a fairly uneventful opening 20 minutes, Tangerines’ keeper Matthew Powley was finally called into action to palm away a free kick to prevent Adam Plumstead the opportunity of getting in a close range header.
In the 45th minute the Tangerines had their best chance of the half to take the lead when Kyle Downes broke away down the right, but he was unable to pick out fellow striker Matt Dixon as his low cross was cut out by a last ditch interception by Aarron Taylor as the score remained goalless at the break.
The home side dominated the proceedings in the early stages of the second half and created two clear cut chances with Peter Lambert blazing over from just inside the area before Joel Watts spurned another good opportunity.
At the other end, Downes again went close for Diss but his close range shot from a Danny Self pass was well blocked by Gorleston goalkeeper Jack Whatough.
The visitors introduced fresh legs up front in the form of Jordan Attree and David Norman for Downes and Dixon.
And with seconds of the game remaining Norman had a chance to notch the winner but he could only fire over the bar after pouncing on a spilled cross as the sides settled for a share of the spoils.
n It proved a forgettable weekend for Diss Hawks Under-13s who slumped to a comprehensive 5-0 defeat against Thetford Bulldogs despite promising displays from Henry Ready, Nathan Faulkner, Isaac Nunn, Drew Cotton, Jacob Wales, George Bingham, Liam Last, Samuel Brice and Oliver Hunt.
