Title clinched for first time
Diss Golf Club’s Ladies team captured the Suffolk Ladies County Golf Association Seniors Jubilee Shield for the very first time thanks to a three-hole win over their Woodbridge counterparts.
The competition, played in a four-ball better-ball format, took place at Ipswich Golf Club.
And it was the Diss side made up of Jenny Chamberlin, Liz Speak, Sandra Bowman, Pat Parker, Jane Fishwick, Marie Needham, Val Mendam, and Philippa Bridges that triumphed, with Helen Lawson and Jean Rickard featuring in earlier rounds.
Elsewhere at the club, the Morrit Cup was won by Archie Moore with an excellent score of net 62, while the runner-up spot went the way of Charles William Doe with a nett score of 64.
Meanwhile, the Watson Cup – an event for both male and female players – was clinched Edward Doe with a nett score of 67.
In second place behind the champion on countback was Simon Thompson with nett 69, while Becky Draper came in with the best ladies’ score thanks to a return of nett 73.
The Edwards Plate tournament was won by the pairing of Sandra and Ken Bowman and the combination of Jane Izod and Denis Millier joined forces to win The Stanley Young Cup tournament.
Ruth Ingram won the Past Captains’ competition (Ladies) with 38 Stableford points.
