Ross Potter says his Diss Town side head into this weekend’s crunch clash with Halstead Town full of confidence, writes Alex Moss.

The Tangerines returned to winning ways with a 2-1 derby victory over Stowmarket Town on Saturday, and visit Halstead having lost just one of their last nine games.

Potter’s men currently occupy ninth place in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division, but can make ground on the teams above them with wins at Halstead tomorrow (3pm) and at home to Dereham Town Reserves on Tuesday (7.45pm).

“It’s a big game,” the Diss boss admitted. “They played Wivenhoe last Friday night and narrowly lost 3-2, so they’re obviously not far off.

“Wivenhoe are by the far best team in the league, but we go to Halstead with a lot of confidence in the camp.

“Everyone’s available so we’re looking strong, and as each week goes by we’re getting stronger and stronger.”

Ben Fowkes enjoyed a dream debut for the Tangerines at the weekend, scoring less than 30 seconds after coming on as a 78th minute substitute.

The 17-year-old has joined Diss on loan until the end of the season from Lowestoft Town, and is a player who has been on Potter’s radar for some time.

“He’s a young lad I’ve been aware of for a couple of months,” he said. “He’s come over to gain some experience with us and has come on, first touch, goal, happy days.

“ To do that in your first game in senior football isn’t half bad.”
