Framlingham College confirmed as joint national hockey champions

Framlingham College’s Girls first team are celebrating being crowned co-national champions after England Hockey confirmed the Investec Girls and Notts Sport Boys Schools’ U18 Tier 1 Championship finals would not be played due to Covid-19.

Framlingham had been due to face their Repton School counterparts in the final at Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre on March 19, but that match was postponed because of the pandemic.

And now it has been decided the game will not take place, meaning the two schools will share the title.

It had been a campaign to remember for Framlingham, who opened up by winning their Eastern region group, which included wins over Norwich School, Reigate Grammar School, Ipswich School and St Johns School, Leatherhead.

They then played out a 1-1 draw with St George’s in the quarter-final, eventually advancing through 4-2 on penalty strokes, before recording a 3-2 victory at the expense Trent College in the last four.
