Burroughs takes Stratton job
Adam Burroughs has taken charge of Long Stratton ahead of their 2018/19 Hadley & Ottaway Anglian Combination Premier Division campaign.
The former Diss Town striker has taken on the role on a solo basis, having worked alongside Steve Race last term.
Race, who will return to managing the club’s reserve side, had been a steadying influence since taking over three years ago.
In his first season, the club survived in the Premier Division and during 2016/17 had a good run in the cups.
And last term their 15 wins from 30 outings was enough to secure a top-four finish.
Burroughs, who started the previous campaign with eventual Premier Division champions Harleston Town, made two starting appearances for Long Stratton in 2017/18, with a further 12 outings coming on as a substitute.
l Fellow Premier Division side Scole United have boosted their preparations for the new season with the signing of Max Kirby.
Manager Jon Abbott has swooped to sign the versatile defender, who has previous experience of having played for Thurlow Nunn sides Diss Town, Gorleston, FC Clacton and Great Yarmouth Town.
Abbott told the club’s website: “I have known Max for a number of years, and if he can get sharp over pre-season and put in the performances I know he can produce, we have an excellent signing.”
Scole’s first pre-season friendly of the summer sees them travel to face Mendlesham on July 14.
That is followed by games with Thetford Rovers at home (July 21), Framlingham Town away (July 24), Hempnall at home (July 28), Bungay Town away (July 31), Bacton United 89 at home (August 4) and Stanton at home (August 11).
Earlier this month Scole confirmed the arrival of Jordan Balls, who captained AFC Hoxne last season, and former Ipswich Town trainee goalkeeper Kai Hewitt.
