Diss Town manager Garth Good keen to see more of the same after positive 2024/25 Thurlow Nunn League First Division North campaign
Garth Good is taking nothing for granted as his Diss Town side prepare to kick off the 2025/26 season.
By Good’s own admission, the Tangerines ‘overachieved’ last term on their way to finishing in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North play-offs.
The campaign ultimately ended on a disappointing note with a 2-0 semi-final defeat to Stanway Pegasus, but overall it was a positive few months for the Brewers Green Lane outfit.
However, ahead of tomorrow’s curtain raiser at home against FC Clacton (3pm), Good has insisted that nobody connected with the club can afford to rest on their laurels.
“I think it’s fair to say that we overachieved when you compare it to where people thought we were going to end up,” said Good, who was appointed in June 2023.
“But while we did overachieve, the boys deserved it. They worked hard and they earned where we finished in the league.
“At the same time, we’re still working to our plan. It’s easy to get carried away after a good season, but there’s lots of good clubs at our level.
“We can be very proud of last season because of how hard we worked to achieve it, but we need to keep our feet on the ground as well.
“Who wouldn’t want to be in the top five again? But every club in the division will be giving everything to achieve that.
“It’s not going to be easy and just because of what we did last season, it doesn’t guarantee anything this season. Our determination, our work-rate and the desire has to remain the same.”
Diss, who will travel to Framlingham Town on Tuesday night (7.45pm), go into the new season having had a tough pre-season.
They have played friendlies against a number of higher-level sides – and that was very much by design.
“It was very deliberate. We wanted to play tough games to get the boys up to speed and also it gave them the chance to see the standard,” added Good.
“The pleasing thing was how we competed and stayed in those games.
“We beat Haverhill, Mulbarton’s winner against us came five minutes from the end and we lost 1-0 to Harleston to a goal from distance.
“The boys can take a lot of heart from those games and the way they performed into the season.”
Diss signed off from pre-season on Tuesday night with a 1-0 friendly victory over Thetford Town.
