Diss boss delighted with double signing

Diss Town boss Jason Cook has continued to shape his squad for the upcoming season with the addition of two players that previously won promotion from the Thurlow Nunn League First Division.

Paul Betson – a three-time FA Vase finalist with AFC Sudbury – has arrived from Lakenheath, while Steve Holder, who helped Stowmarket Town move up to Step 5 in 2017, has joined from Mildenhall Town.

Like the recently-signed Ricky Cornish, at the age of 42, left-sided midfielder Betson will offer plenty of experience to the squad.

“Paul is going to be a great asset,” said Cook.

“He has really looked after himself and is going to be a great example to the younger members of the squad.

“We lacked a bit of experience to win certain games last year but Paul has the know-how when it comes to getting over the line.”

Holder, meanwhile, has been recruited to ease some of the goalscoring burden on last season’s main marksman Virgilio Leitao.

“Virgilio was very impressive last season but he still needs some help,” added Cook.

“Steve has been very impressive in training and looks to have put his injury problems from the last few years behind him.”

Cook has now got the majority of his squad together, though he is still on the look out for a goalkeeper and midfielder.
