Allen and Barrs are Superstars at end of successful year for Blue Dragon
Sam Allen and Georgia Barrs closed out a successful year for Great Cornard’s Blue Dragon Kickboxing Adademy in some style.
Allen and Barrs were the winners at the club’s annual Superstars competition, with Allen beating Harry Moule (second), Billy Browning (third), Freddie Austin and Lillie Hurrell (both fourth) to the Little Blue Dragons category.
Barrs won the Blue Dragons category from Shell Cooper (second) and Scott Stannard (third).
n Unbeaten Liam Vant was named the fighter of the year at Blue Dragon’s annual presentation evening.
Accolades were also handed out to Lucas Lawson (most-improved sparring), Freddie Austin (most-improved junior), Alex Chester (most-improved senior), Joshua Cates (best newcomer, juniors) and Matt Levett (best newcomer, seniors).
n Blue Dragon also held a high belt grading before Christmas, which lasted five hours.
Hayley Goddard and Mark Lawson achieved their brown belts, Georgia Barrs was graded to black belt and Stella Blezard joined her brother and father as another black belt.
n Two students made their debut in full contact kickboxing and K1 rules at Suffolk Showdown, held in Debenham.
Alex Chester fought a hard bout against Barry Voice from Ipswich.
Chester rocked Voice in the second round, but Voice regrouped and came back strongly to take the win.
Alastair Campbell fought K1 rules against Aurimas Jonusas from Hakuda Gym in Burnley.
Campbell won the first round with good strong combinations, but after a close second round, Jonusas took the third and judges awarded the Burnley fighter the win on a close split decision.
